These 5 Advertising Design Methods Will Turn Heads. Guaranteed.
“Keep It Simple, Stupid” or (KISS) is a design principle coined by Kelly Johnson, a lead engineer at the Lockheed Skunk Works. The KISS principle states that systems work best if they are made simple rather than complicated. Simplicity should be a key design goal and unnecessary complexity should be avoided at all costs.
2. Show, Don’t Tell
The “Show, Don’t Tell” technique is used throughout literature, art and film that allows the reader/viewer to experience the story through action, senses and feelings rather than having the author spell everything out through exposition and description. The concept is attributed to Russian playwright Anton Chekhov who said: “Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.”
3. Focus On Emotions
You can list out the features of a product, but no one will care unless you can show why they matter. Whether you want to appeal to happiness, humor, sadness, fear or any other emotion, focus your design around that emotion. Consider how your message reads, what adjustments you can make to enhance the emotional effect you’re appealing to.
4. Speak To Your Niches
If you want to reach your target consumer group, you have to talk directly to them. Representing your consumer directly in your ad is a great way to signal that you’re talking directly to them. Brands with multiple target consumer groups can benefit from running multiple ad campaigns instead of one.
5. Choose Your Colors Wisely
Color is an incredibly powerful tool throughout the design, art, entertainment, and of course adverting. With color you can set the tone of your ads, conjure emotions and set up a motif. Whichever colors you choose for your ad campaigns, do it intentionally and with purpose.
