SEO Weekly Recap (Random Crap Edition)
Hey folks Austin here and it’s time for another Weekly SEO Recap (Random Crap Edition).
What happens if you Google SEO? You get all the latest SEO articles Google thinks are relevant to your search. But are they relevant to you? Let me be the judge of that and help you cut to the chase.
Silly Marketer Title Tags are for Robots
There are multiple camps on how to “properly” do title tags. The reality is one way isn’t right over the other because they both measure success based on opinions and views on what is important. Well the most recent white board Friday from our friends at Moz have a new happy medium that they want to discuss with us. The only problem is there isn’t any step-by-step on how to do this philosophy, it’s just a “hey look what we thought of.”
Pros
- Good philosophy for both camps
- Links to resources
Negatives
- Needs data and examples
How Our Agency Survived Year One
Starting up your own internet marketing company is quite the step for many people, but making it through that first year is quite the milestone. There are a lot of lessons to be learned from those who have made the journey, and I personally love reading other’s success stories. So read up on how Bill Sebald made it, you’ll even get a Adam Sandler reference.
Pros
- Awesome lessons learned
- Good tips and examples
Negatives
- Would love to see some data
SEO vs SEM Timelines: A Medial Analogy
Everysingle person who has been in this industry long enough knows that our clients simply don’t understand what we do, but they understand it’s important. We’ve also spent a lot of time trying to explain to our clients what we’re doing only to have them come back a few months later and ask us the exact same questions. Is there a way to tell our clients what we’re doing so they can understand? Well this article attempts that by using medical terms that our clients are more familiar with.
Pros
- Good ideas on how to explain SEO work
- Lots of different terms and how to use them
Negatives
- Needs data and examples
Deconstructing eBay.com’s Organic Loss Using SEMrush
It’s been all over the internet marketing scene so if you haven’t heard eBay got penalized by Google. Apparently the exact reasons for the penalty aren’t clear, but one thing that is clear is it isn’t because of a recent Panda update. The folks over at RetuGeeks has offered their reasoning as building “gateway” pages that would help eBay get higher rankings. It’s an interesting strategy that apparently Google thought they were using a little too much.
Pros
- Interesting Theory on why eBay was penalized
- Data to backup theory
Negatives
- A little long might need to read when have more time
