Hey Everyone, today we’re starting a new video series from Clicks and Clients bringing you everything you need to know about the channels that we service. Oh, and did I mention we’re doing it in video format!?

Today we’re kicking it off with SEO (the best marketing channel, obviously).

What is SEO and why is it Important? SEO (Search Engine Optimization) includes all the tactics we use to increase ranking in the SERP (Search Engine Results Page). Those tactics include: Content and meta optimization, internal linking and site structure, external linking and local citations, technical SEO, site speed optimization, and more.

Why is SEO important? SEO is important for many reasons – most importantly is that doing it right means that you have a better chance to rank well for search terms that will bring people to your site. The better you rank, the more traffic you’ll get to your site and, if we’ve done our job right, the more people will convert when they’re there.

In this video we specifically mention Links and Content. You may be asking, “what does that mean, though?”

Links

Links are anytime someone shares your website URL on the web. In the eyes of search engines, links are used as a sort of voting mechanism to help show how authoritative or relevant something is to a searchers query. Not all links are created equal, but we’ll cover that another time. Suffice it to say that if you have links from relevant sources, you’ll have a much better chance of ranking in search results.

Content

Content is what the user comes for, so make sure your content gives them what they are looking for. Create content (and web pages) that serve a purpose and be has informative as possible. There have been many myths around content in recent years regarding how long a piece should be, how often keywords are used throughout the body, and many other unsubstantiated claims. If you want to know what your content should look like, find the keyword you want to rank for and look at the top results. You should see some similarities among the top-ranking pages. Using those similarities as a guideline, craft your content to match those qualifications and put some extra creativity in to cover anything else you feel is missing.

Conclusion

Links and Content work in tandem. Great content will draw in interested readers. Links will help search engines build confidence in your page/website as a resource. When combining both pieces, you’ll start to see search engines favoring your page and begin sending more and more traffic your way. From there, it’s up to get users to convert or complete other actions on your site. Stay tuned for more videos, insights, and deeper dives on SEO basics.
